Faith Lutheran Church is a family of professing Christians inspired by Christ’s grace and love. We are committed to joyful worship, spiritual growth, caring relationships, and community outreach.
All are welcome here. But we extend a special welcome to those who are single, married, divorced, gay, lesbian, transgender, filthy rich, dirt poor, yo no habla Ingles. We extend a special welcome to those who are crying newborns, skinny as a rail or could afford to lose a few pounds.
We welcome you if you can sing like Andrea Bocelli or like many around here who can’t carry a note in a bucket. You’re welcome here if you’re “just browsing,” just woke up or just got out of jail. We don’t care if you’re more Catholic than the Pope, or haven’t been in church since little Joey’s Baptism.
We extend a special welcome to those who are over 60 but not grown up yet, and to teenagers who are growing up too fast. We welcome soccer moms, NASCAR dads, starving artists, tree-huggers, latte-sippers, vegetarians, junk-food eaters. We welcome those who are in recovery or still addicted. We welcome you if you’re having problems or you’re down in the dumps or if you don’t like “organized religion,” we’ve been there too.
We endorse all people but we make it a point not to promote any particular politician. If you need a church that does or a minister who screams and yells from the Ambo about how everybody who doesn’t believe as he believes (or she believes) is going to hell…well, you’re probably not going to like this church. Here, you can be Democrat, Republican, Independent… heck, even a Socialist. You’ll understand, we’re sort of struck with Jesus, and especially his teachings. The way we figure it — if we allow ourselves to be transformed by Him, the world will be a happier and healthier place for everybody. Healthier and happier too, for those not interested in religion, not even ours.
If you blew all your offering money last night at the dog track, tough luck for us. You’re still welcome here. We offer a special welcome to those who think the earth is flat, work too hard, don’t work, can’t spell, or because grandma is in town and wanted to go to church.
We welcome those who are inked, pierced or both. We offer a special welcome to those who could use a prayer right now, had religion shoved down your throat as a kid or got lost in traffic and wound up here by mistake. We welcome tourists, seekers and doubters, bleeding hearts … In short, we welcome you!

Welcome Pastor Daniel Gemechu Shantu!
Daniel was born and grew up in Ethiopia. He came to faith in Christ when he was in high school. Shortly afterward, he was invited to a Lutheran church in the area and became a Lutheran. A few years later, he began to sense God’s calling while he was an elementary school teacher, which gradually led him to Mekane Yesus Lutheran Seminary in Ethiopia. He met his wife Regatu Negeri in the seminary and got married after they finished their studies. They have a 12 year old son, Raji Daniel. Regatu and Raji Daniel currently live in Norway. After graduating from Mekane Yesus Theological seminary in Ethiopia, he taught for 2 years at a Bible College and at the end received a scholarship from the Lutheran school in Norway for Master of Philosophy from 2004-06. He came to the United States in 2006 and attended the Lutheran Theological Seminary at Gettysburg to prepare for ministry in American cultural context and earned M.Div in 2011. In 2012 he did a CPE Residency Program at Washington Hospital Center for one year in Washington, D.C. and became a chaplain. He worked in a few hospitals on the east coast for a few years. In 2015 he came to the Graduate Theological Union (GTU) in Berkeley, CA to begin a PhD in Systematic Theology and graduated in 2018. This is when he and our Interim Pastor, Rev. Ted Peters met. He has been preaching in many congregations in the Bay Area over the past four years that he has lived in CA. He accepted our Call to be pastor and was ordained a Lutheran Minister on Jan. 4, 2020. We welcome him in to our congregation and are SO EXCITED for the opportunity to deepen our faith and expand The Good News to our neighbors and friends in the community!
PLEASE Join us in welcoming Pastor Daniel and (hopefully soon) his family, every Sunday at 9:00 AM
